Individual Program
We offer comprehensive therapy in a package
for all our students. We implement individualized Contemporary
Behavioral Therapy (CBT) curriculum, which has been developed
by the directors at Autism Partnership for over 25 years.
Our
programs are developed for each individual child to address
critical foundation skills necessary for long-term success.
Our staff specializes in developing curriculum to address
areas such as language, behavior and social skills, which
are necessary to improve quality of life for all children
with autism. Progress is achieved through the use of specialized
teaching techniques, training and support for families, and
a focus on teaching and improving appropriate behaviors.
The effectiveness of our approach is self-explanatory not
only in Dr. Ivar Lovaas’ study but also in the
collected scientific data at Autism Partnership.

Psychological Assessment
Autism Partnership
has 2 in-house Clinical Psychologists providing assessment
and consultation services to agency clients and general
public. Apart from their post-graduate training, both psychologists
receive extensive training and on-going supervision from
Dr. B.J. Freeman, a world renowned diagnostician in autism
spectrum disorders, and from our consultant psychologists
in Los Angeles. Dr. B.J. Freeman also comes to Hong Kong
on a regular basis to offer private assessment and consultation
for families.Currently,
the following types of assessment are provided in AP:
- Diagnostic assessment
The
purpose of this type of assessment is to rule out, establish
or to clarify a diagnosis. We specialize in diagnosing
people on the autism spectrum. Parents who have concerns
about the development of their children will find a diagnostic
assessment helpful. Not only will they learn more about
the diagnosis, condition or problems of their children,
they will also be provided recommendations regarding treatment,
school placement, and procedures they can carry out to
help their children at home. Depending on necessity, ability
tests to assess the child’s skill level might also
be conducted. Observation in a more natural setting, such
as school, might be necessary for some cases.Diagnostic
assessment for a wide age range is available: children,
adolescents and adults.
- Intelligence test
The
purpose of this type of assessment is to evaluate the
intellectual functioning of a child. The test results
can help to evaluate the suitability of one’s school placement and the
amount and type of support necessary for a placement. Parents
can also expect to find out their child’s strengths
and weaknesses from the test, which will shed light on
the intensity and focus of treatment. Yearly testing
also helps to document the progress of a child and testify
the effectiveness of the treatment one receives in the
past year.
- Developmental and overall skills test
The
purpose of this type of assessment is to obtain a comprehensive
profile of a child’s development, including behavioural,
cognitive, visual reception, language, communication, motor,
social and daily living skills. It provides important information
and guides treatment. The assessment is recommended before
the start of a treatment program. Yearly re-evaluations
also provide more insights for further treatment planning,
reviewing a child’s progress and auditing the effectiveness
of a treatment program.

Program Supervision
Our experienced program
consultants oversee and supervise therapy sessions regularly
to ensure that quality and effective teaching is implemented
to maximize learning outcome. They provide ongoing assessment
and modifications to curriculum development. Programs will
be added or broken down whenever necessary so progress
will be followed up and challenges will be addressed. Frequency
of supervision depends on the child’s performance
but regularly, there will be a minimum of 6 hours supervision
per month.

Parent Training
AP believes that parental
involvement and expertise is crucial. AP provides a comprehensive
group training program for parents, which runs for approximately
three months. Parents receive over 100 hours of training
and supervision. Training sessions comprise of didactic
presentations and hands-on practical sessions. In addition
to the weekly full-day training, parents are required to
submit their own video-recorded home sessions of them working
with their own child, which will be reviewed together with
one of the AP parent trainers. In addition to learning
how to further enhance their child’s progress, the
group also provides a forum for parents to share experiences
and offer support to each other.
Topics included in the
training:
- Principles of reinforcement
- Functional analysis
of behaviors
- Discrete trial teaching
- How to teach play skills
