Our current program is designed for parents who are ready to adopt a more hands-on approach with their children with autism. By taking a more active role in their children’s treatment, parents can help generalize their skills to different contexts; hence, greatly improving their lives.
Intensive Parent Training
In a span of 12 weeks, we will train our parents intensively on a weekly basis. Each session is divided into two segments: theoretic and practical sessions. |
|
-
Didactic sessions, where we will discuss theories and techniques behind our method of teaching;
-
Practical sessions, where parents will have hands on training with their own children under the guidance of our skilled parent trainers, and
-
Video reviews, where parents bring in their homework from previous sessions and are offered feedback and guidance for further improvement.
Video homework assignments are given on a weekly basis where parents are encouraged to take their newly-acquired skills and practice at home. This gives the trainer a chance to assess what our parents needs are and to adjust our training where possible to best suit the natural situations that occur at home.
Our list of topics include and are not limited to:
-
Reinforcement and engagement – learning what motivates a child, how to present reinforcement, and how to utilize reinforcement to motivate and increase the desired behaviour.
-
Discrete Trial Teaching (D.T.T.)– understanding the fundamentals behind our teaching method, learning the cause and effects of each component within D.T.T.
-
Prompting – learning how to provide proper assistance when teaching a child
-
Spontaneous Language – understanding the functions of communication, learning techniques to encourage a child’s spontaneous language

Individual Parent training
This program is offered to those who have either completed our intensive training and would like further assistance or for parents who cannot commit to our intensive training program’s schedule. With this training module, we take a more prescriptive approach and try to solve issues that are currently occurring. It is best recommended that parents should have prior knowledge on our teaching methods as many of the techniques would be required to facilitate a successful individual training program. This program is also suitable for parents whose children have minor issues that need to be resolved and would like a brief intervention program with our trainers.

Ongoing Support
We are in process of formulating follow up groups for parents who have completed our intensive training course. The purpose of this is for parents to come in and share the progress and issues of their children. There will be roundtable discussions where we work together with parents to problem solve issues and help them maximize their children’s progress.
