For some children with Autism, it will be beneficial and effective to have a shadow teacher accompany the student to school. By following a well-designed intervention plan, the shadow can facilitate social skills and interest, communication, resolve behavioral issues and ensure a smooth integration into mainstream schools.
Often, however, shadows are untrained or do not follow a systematic plan. The end result is more policing of students and prompting them through the demands of the day rather than truly helping students to learn. This can increase dependency on the shadow aid and sometimes create issues.. It is essential that the shadow support services you employ are professional and well-trained. |

With more than 4 years of school shadowing experience, Autism Partnership has worked extensively with many primary and secondary schools. Our shadowing team comprises a case supervisor and behavioral therapists. They have been intensively trained and supervised. Follow the steps to register our service:
Step 1: Initial Meeting
We will meet with the parents to collect information on the child’s medical and treatment history, current issues and skill levels.
Step 2: School Visit
Our consultants will observe the student in class and meet with the teachers and school staff to find out more about the child's performance at school.
Step 3: Designing Treatment Plan
Our consultants will design a treatment plan based upon the information collected from class observation, teachers and parents. The school personnel have a critical role in this part of process and the final plan will be submitted for the school and teachers’ approval.
Step 4: Treatment Plan Implementation
Our staff will co-ordinate with the teachers and implement the plan in school. A supervisor will oversee the implementation of the treatment plan on a regular basis and meet with the school to ensure maximum learning progress. |
