Services for school professionals

Children with autism can often overcome these issues with the right support and training. This support can often be conducted in the context of school-based programme. Autism Partnership has created a wealth of options for schools to consider better preparing and training their teachers and we also offer a wide range of support services for students that school may not have the resources to provide.

Classroom Consultations

In order to run an effective classroom for students with autism, planning and organization is critical. Autism Partnership consultants can consult to individual classrooms, or the whole school to provide help in construction a model programme which has been implemented in some of the biggest school districts in the USA. Classroom constultation includes:

  Classroom Organisation
  Lesson Planning
  Individual Education Plan (IEP)
  Curriculum Development
  Individualisation of Programming
  Positive Behavioural Support
  Teaching Strategies
  Data Collection
  Program Evaluation

Classroom consultation is often an intensive process requiring many hours of training and consulting. The consultations are individualized to each school’s needs.

Shadow Support

Often it may be decided by the school that a student with autism may benefit from having an aide to support them in the classroom. Unfortunately, this can sometimes lead to merely policing the student and increasing dependence on the extra support. To reduce these problems, Autism Partnership offer:

Training to teacher assistants, school-employed or parent-employed shadows
Special Needs Officers in a classroom
Professional shadow support in a classroom
Effective programming plans and supervisions for individual student developed by experienced consultants

Individual Student Consultations

If assistance is needed for individual students, our consultants are available to work within existing supports in school to help coming up with a programme plan. Having a behavrioually based consultant can provide a different or insightful view as to possible options for treatment. We are very experienced in working within school systems and working as part of a team which oten consists of learning support coordinators, aides, speech therapists and teachers. After a plan is developed for the student, out consultants can also provide ongoing support by providing the necessary training and supervision to ensure the program is carried out effectively.

Advanced Training Courses

An important part of being an educator is ongoing training and professional development. We tailor made advanced training programs in the areas of:

  Functional Behavioural Assessment
Curriculum Development for children with autism
  Motivational Strategies
  Precision Teaching
  Social Skills Training
  Integration Strategies
Working with Aides in the classroom
  Emotional Regulation
  Disruptive Behavioural Management

These training programmes may include lectures and hands-on practical workshop. Training can be held at your school or at our own offices. We can tailor make a training programme specifically to eet the needs of your staff.

Assessment and Diagnosis

Sometimes a student may enter school without any diagnosis or prior assessment. When it is noted that a student is facing challenges, it is critical to diagnose the problem quickly so that the proper help can be provided.

Autism Partnership has 2 in-house Clinical Psychologists providing assessment and consultation services to agency clients and the general public. Apart from their post-graduate training, both psychologists receive extensive training and on-going supervision from our consultant psychologists in Los Angeles and from Dr. B.J. Freeman, a world-renowned diagnostician in autism spectrum disorders. Dr. B.J. Freeman also comes to Singapore to offer private assessment and consultation for families at Autism Partnership. Currently, the following types of assessment are available:

  Diagnostic assessment
  Intelligence test
  Developmental and overall skills test

Internships

We offer the rare opportunity for teachers to have a free three to six month internship at our primary classes. Teachers will spend the first month doing an intensive training course at Autism Partnership where they will receive over 160 hours of direct instruction and supervision. For the following two to five months, teachers will be placed in a classroom and work alongside with our experienced teaching staff. They will receive ongoing supervision in this placement on their implementation of various teaching methods, behavioural management, organizational skills, curriculum development and precision teaching.
